As you drive I-5 north to Bellingham, the sight of Lake Samish is always a welcome sign that you are “almost there.” Located just south of Bellingham (approximately a 15-minute drive), Lake Samish is a popular place to buy a home, with trout and kokanee salmon fishing, and ample summer activity. Some consider this the best waterskiing and wakeboarding lake in Whatcom County. It’s no wonder, then, that lakefront homes here are selling for near the price of Lake Whatcom waterfront.
At 809 acres, and reaching depths of 275 feet, Lake Samish is a large lake, but still small in comparison to Lake Whatcom, and it maintains a private and northwest rural feel. With Blanchard Mountain and Chuckanut pass to the south, and Galbraith Mountain to the north, the Pacific Northwest views that surround the lake truly enhance its beauty.
Housing is all single-family (no condominiums), with homes ranging from small quaint cabins to modern upscale new construction. There are homes both on waterfront and across-the-street access waterfront, as well as homes with lake views that utilize the nearby boat launch or Samish Park for lake access.
Home values have soared on Lake Samish in recent years, with lakefront properties taking on an even greater premium. The location is also ideal for many; with the short distance to Bellingham and quick access to I-5, this is a lake that works well for commuters to Seattle or north over the Canadian border.
Samish Park is a 26-acre park that offers a playground and a beach with a dedicated swimming area. Lake Samish has a public boat launch as well.
Coveted public schools include Wade King Elementary, Fairhaven Middle School, and Sehome High School.
