Semiahmoo is a planned community that began development in 1987. It has now grown into a well-established community that centers around the Semiahmoo Resort and Spa on the Semiahmoo sandy spit, located on the very northwestern edge of Whatcom County, just west of Blaine and north of Birch Bay. The activities surrounding the hotel often include local residents, such as weekend bonfires on the beach.

The residential community includes three condo complexes and well-established gated residential developments.

The Semiahmoo Golf Course, designed by Arnold Palmer, has been acclaimed as one of the top 10 public golf courses in Washington State. Semiahmoo is well-known for large lots with established landscapes, many with golf course views in the St. Andrews gates, and others with views of the bay (Drayton Hillside). An extensive trail system also runs through the community.

Between the long, sandy spit with hotel-run activities, the developed trail system, and the Semiahmoo Golf Course itself, this is indeed an active resort community.

If you are looking in the general area,  several homes with bay views and waterfront access (that are not part of the HOA) can be found along Semiahmoo Drive. There is another popular golf course and smaller development, Loomis Trail, about 4 miles away.
