Sudden Valley is located just east of Bellingham along the shores of Lake Whatcom, and this is the 2nd biggest planned community in Washington state. Sudden Valley attracts many newcomers with more affordable housing than the city limits of Bellingham, yet still in the Bellingham school district. The treed feel and access to trails and the lake provide additional appeal.

Sudden Valley has very distinct locations. Gate 1 and Gate 2 on the Lake Whatcom side offer generally more sunlight, and closer in access to the amenities and the lake. Gate 3, 5, 7 and 9 offer more bang for the buck on the housing options, and in some cases, closer access to city limits and bike trails that take you to Galbraith Mountain.
