In the northernmost section of Bellingham, Cordata is one of the newest neighborhoods in Bellingham (formed in 2010). Anchored by Whatcom Community College, the Cordata neighborhood has a mix of commercial, retail, retail and condominium development.
For housing, Cordata is a mix of newer single family developments, and condo projects. Cordata is also home to four different 55+ communities. Yet with newer housing developments as well, Cordata is really home to a true mix of young families to retirees.
The new Cordata Park is an amazing addition to the area for residents. The 25 acre park has miles of walking/biking trails, a pump track, a playground, a picnic area and gazebo, and even a splash pad. The park just opened in 2020, and the splash pad is yet to make it’s debut due to Covid restrictions.

Just about every residence in the neighborhood is walking distance to this park, making it a huge upgrade. One downside to Cordata previous to this was a lack of access to park space and trails compared to other older neighborhoods that are more central to town.
Cordata is also very convenient for shopping and medical. Madrona Medical center is in Cordata, and the hospital is only 5 minutes away. Cordata is home to the Food Co-Op grocery store and the Cordata Plaza. But also runs parallel to Meridian street, which is home to all of the big box stores and near the mall. So shopping and restaurants are plentiful within a couple of minutes drive or bike ride.
